Deal each player a grid of face-down cards, commonly a 2×2 or 2×3 layout, and turn two of them face up. Place the rest of the deck in the middle and flip the top card to start a discard pile. On your turn, take either the top discard or the top card of the draw pile.
You can swap the card you took for any card in your grid, placing the old card face up on the discard pile, or discard it without swapping. The hole ends when a player has all of their cards face up, and everyone else usually gets one more turn before scores are counted.
Choose how many holes to play at setup, from 1 to 18. Nine is the traditional round and 18 is a full course. Nine is the standard length and takes around half an hour. Play six for a quick game or eighteen for a long evening.
Golf is a card game where, as in the sport, the lowest score wins. A game is played over a set number of deals called holes, usually nine. Each player lays out a small grid of face-down cards and tries to end the hole with the lowest total value showing. At the end of each hole, add up each player’s cards, enter the totals, and Tallyhoo keeps the running scores and standings.
The player with the lowest total after the last hole wins.
Values differ between tables, so agree on yours before the first hole. A common set: Aces count 1, number cards count their face value, face cards count 10 and Kings count 0. A column of two matching cards cancels out and scores 0. Enter each player’s total for the hole once cards are counted.
House rules vary, especially for 2s, Jokers and face cards.
